"And If They Spoke..." 0 Le Mat | The Fool

In The Way of Tarot: The Spiritual Teacher in the Cards, Alejandro Jodorowsky brilliantly wrote a page about each card, in the voice of the archetype depicted. His book, published in 1997, launched my journey with the Tarot, and it is his deck, co-created with Phillipe Camoin, that I use as a reference when creating my own hand made decks. As an homage to his brilliant work, I was struck by inspiration to begin my own version of "And If They Spoke..."

Though I have read his book, co-written with Marianne Costa, three times through, I have not peeked at a single page since beginning the writing of my forthcoming book, Essene Tarot in the Ancient Marseille, in May of 2021. I wanted my book to build upon the solid foundation with which I was presented using fresh information and insights that were not available until recently. It is his book that faithfully restored the original Tarot de Marseille, enabling me to excavate its attachments to the Magdalene and the Essene mystery school she founded in Southern France, The Order of the Blue Rose.

So, let us begin another cycle, as I write my pages through the voice of the characters upon the cards, using the images from my fifth hand made deck of the Ancient Marseille Tarot. There is a poignant nobility in traveling back into the past in order to carry sacred knowledge into the future, and I pay my respects to all who contribute to preserving truth.

"I have a yearning inside of me to extract more from this life than I thought possible. I can see a bigger and brighter future for myself, outside of the limitations unto which I was born. I am ready to leave behind all that I thought I knew, though I am unsure of where to go. I seek answers to questions I cannot define. And somehow, I know that Spirit will guide me, and I can no longer refuse to answer the call.

I am willing to be misunderstood, cast aside, and ridiculed as I go against the grain, swimming against the current of a world lost in ignorance. I find peace and solace within myself when I travel the path that I know is meant for me. The cheap and empty satisfaction that comes as praise from anything outside of myself has lost its allure, and I must follow my intuition at all costs.

I feel companionship and understanding from the animals, as I watch them simply follow their instincts day after day, never worrying about where to go or what to do. The animals just are, as I simply long to just be. I see the plants and feel their wisdom, as they silently bear witness to the world’s activities, selflessly providing the very air that I breathe.

I feel the weight that I carry. I am aware of the memories and experiences that haunt my troubled mind, but I now realize that the only way to unburden myself is to move forward, step by step into the unknown, looking up to the skies for encouragement and inspiration. I trust that my soul knows the way, and I shall let it guide me."
